			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Just as not all food is the same, not all juicers are the same.  You get what you pay for.   I am going to explain why it is very important to use the best juicer possible if you are really serious about optimal health.</p>
<p>Why is juicing important?  There is no other way to receive the concentration of nutrients and enzymes without juicing.  This is one of the quickest ways to build up the immune system and get it into a mode that will help prevent health issues in the future, but is also used in complimentary therapies for existing conditions.</p>
<p>Juicing VS VitaMixing?  I will never say that there isn’t some advantage to blending or VitaMixing your produce.  Yes you are getting nutrients into your body and you are certainly getting lots of fiber into your body at the same time.  The problem is that you could not possibly take in all the blended produce to the degree that is necessary.  It takes approximately a pound of carrots to make 8 ounces of carrot juice.  In complimentary cancer therapies, including the Gerson Therapy, it is important to get multiple ounces of juice into your system in order to provide the immune system with the nutrients required.</p>
<p>So why is juicing so important?  Juicing is the best way to get the nutrients into the bloodstream quickly and doesn’t’ rely on the digestive system to complete that process.  Oftentimes people who are in compromised health situations also have compromised digestive systems, which have a negative impact on nutrient absorption.  The juiced nutrients are essentially the building blocks for the immune system.  According to Dr. Raymond A Shamberger’s, “Study on role vitamin A plays in building the body’s defense system,” (Department of Biochemistry, The Cleveland Clinic, Ohio), “Vitamin A is one of the most important aids to the body’s defense system fighting and preventing cancer.  When subjected to carcinogens, this vitamin has a remarkable ability to inhibit the introduction and/or retard the growth of both malignant and non-malignant tumors.”</p>
<p>So what kind of juicer is the one to have in your kitchen?   Without question the most popular juicers are the centrifugal juicers.  But not so fast.  Yes they are the financially cheapest juicer to get; however, it comes with a price.  Centrifugal juicers spin the produce at a very high velocity.  They can be ineffective in separating the juice/nutrients from the pulp.  The high velocity also creates heat and the combination can destroy the nutrients and the enzymes.</p>
<p>Why enzymes are so important?   The short answer is that enzymes are essential to sustain life.  No enzymes no life.  They catalyze the reactions within all of our cells.  They are so important that all of the body’s organs, tissues and cells are dependent on metabolic enzymes.  The problem is that we don’t acquire an endless supply of enzymes at birth, so we become dependent on getting our enzymes from whole foods, not processed foods.  Dr. Edward Howell stated the following in his book, Enzyme Nutrition.  “The length of life is inversely proportional to the rate of exhaustion of the enzyme potential of an organism.  The increased use of food enzymes promotes a decreased rate of exhaustion of the enzyme potential”.  Enzymes are killed off at approximately 118 degrees.</p>
<p>Maybe now you begin to see the importance of the right juicers for not only a high concentration of nutrients but also retaining the critical enzymes.</p>
<p>So what is the best type of juicer?  There is only one good answer to this question.  Without question, the most beneficial way to juice is with a shredder and press machine.  Unfortunately you can’t find these juicers on a store shelf.  They are special order machines but without question you will never use anything else.  These types of juicers are the only juicers used in the Gerson Therapy for cancer patients.  They produce the highest concentration of nutrients and also provide you with the full compliment of enzymes that mother nature provided in that whole food.</p>

<div class="block">Grains are seeds of grasses. All grains have protein in them. Not all the grains are made up of the same type of protein. Gluten is one form of the protein found in some of the grains. A subtype of protein in the wheat, barley and rye is called gliadin. Through extensive research it has been found that the gliadin form of gluten is very problematic for our immune system.</div>

Whenever a substance is ingested into the human body and the immune system recognizes this substance as a foreign body, the immune system goes into defense mode. In the case of gluten, the immune system immediately starts producing antibodies in order to neutralize the gluten (which is viewed by the immune system as a foreign protein or antigen). The immune system produces antibodies called IgA. These antibodies congregate heavily in the small intestine. The small intestine is the largest section/organ of the digestive system and it is in the small intestine where a majority of the nutrient absorption takes place. It is during this battle that the small intestine becomes inflamed and even damaged.</div>

No. Symptoms come in a wide variation. Not all gluten sensitive people display digestive symptoms. I know people who have muscle soreness, or headaches, or fatigue, or heartburn, or failure to thrive (grow), or indigestion when they ingest gluten and are gluten sensitive. This is why there are so many undiagnosed and untreated gluten sensitive people in America. There are many other symptoms that I have not listed. The symptoms do not always manifest in digestive ways.</div>

<div class="block">I have found that serum testing for IgA is very inaccurate. A majority of conventional doctors will test a person for serum IgA levels. The problem is that there are a lot of false negatives with this testing. The reason being is that the immunologic reaction takes place in the small intestine and not necessarily in the blood.</div>

<div class="block">I have first hand knowledge of the devastating effects of untreated gluten sensitivity. My own kids had a significant failure to thrive/grow. Until they were properly diagnosed the subject of a correlation with gluten sensitivity never surfaced. Once they were diagnosed and changed their diet, they blossomed almost immediately. They are now very healthy and thriving young adults.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Cancer is a 200+ billion dollar industry. There is no health condition that scares people more than the dreaded cancer word. Despite all the stress worrying about whether you have cancer and if you do the painful process that follows, people still engage in behavior that greatly increases your risk of getting cancer.</p>
<p>Just recently on June 1st, 2012, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France put out their finding on a research on cancer. The paper was published in the journal Lancet Oncology. Researchers predict that middle-income countries will see an increase of 78 percent globally in the number of cancer cases by 2030. In less developed nations, they are expected to see a 93 percent global increase over the same time period.<br />

<p>This global increase in cancer is very troubling. We are now beginning to understand that many cancers are dependent on lifestyles. I have heard many friends tell me over the years that cancer is strictly dependent on the genes you are born with. They simply don’t understand that each and every one of us have so much control over the health of our immune system. Our immune systems are an incredible system that badly wants to protect us.</p>
<p>Some people believe that cancer is the body’s way of getting back at us for treating it badly. There is some truth to that. Andreas Moritz, a well know natural health practitioner had this to say about cancer. “Cancer does not cause a person to be sick; it is the sickness of the person that causes the cancer.”</p>
<p>It is important to understand that the development of malignancy results from a combination of hits on the cell-repeated insults. In other words, if we engage in a lifestyle that continually damages our cells, we will eventually damage our DNA and genes and the result is the renegade cell that continues to mutate.</p>
<p>The top three cancers in American females are lung cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer. The top three cancers for American males are lung cancer, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer. We are approaching 600,000 deaths from cancer each year in America and over 1.5 million new cancer cases each year.  If the number were increased by 78 percent (which is predicted) by the year 2030, we will have over 400,000 new cases each year and approaching 2 million new cases annually.  There are over 1500 deaths each day from cancer in America. The New England Journal of Medicine (Haber 2000) defined cancer: “Cancer results from the accumulation of mutations in genes that regulate cellular proliferation.” We don’t get cancer from eating one bad food from time to time. It takes years of accumulated damage to our cells until cellular disruption is great enough that the malignant cell proliferates. The average cancer has been mutating and proliferating for approximately 10 years before it will be diagnosed.</p>
<p>The Life Extension Foundation adds that, “The most prevalent cause of environmental genetic mutation is the food we eat.” Just one example is colorectal cancer. Many studies have found that the greater the intake of meat, the higher the risk for colorectal cancer. This is broken down further in that during the cooking process of meat, heterocyclic amines are formed and they are known to cause mutations in the DNA. The transit time and breakdown of the protein takes a much greater time than is healthy for us.<br />

<p>In conventional medicine the priority is to get rid of the tumor. We have missed the most important point. What was the reason for the tumor formation in the first place? Why is it difficult for us to understand that if you do not take care of a car (don’t change the oil regularly, don’t do normal maintenance and fill it with poor quality oil and gas) eventually that car is not going to run properly. Our body is no different.</p>
<p>So if we continue to fill our body with toxins and feed it nutrient deficient food, our body will fail us.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are hundreds of powerful whole foods that contain health promoting compounds.  I place a lot of importance in whole foods that have been used in cultures for thousands of years.  Green tea is one such food.  It has literally been consumed for over four thousand years in some cultures.  Just a few other examples of whole foods used medicinally in cultures for over thousands of years are turmeric and garlic.</p>
<p>Green tea consumption can be traced to China over 4,000 years ago.  The documentation of the health benefits of green tea date back that far.  What researchers have found is that green tea contains a very powerful polyphenol identified as epigallocatechin gallates (EGCG).  Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants commonly found in plant food.  This powerful compound has become the focus of countless numbers of research studies.</p>
<p>The Life Extension Foundation is a global authority on nutrition, health, and wellness and a provider of scientific information on anti-aging and therapies.  Here is what the Foundation says about green tea research:</p>

<li class="circle_arrow">Mayo Clinic researchers showed that green tea consumption inhibited cancer growth.  They identified the green tea polyphenol EGCG as the most potent inhibitor of cancer cell proliferation.</li>
<li class="circle_arrow">EGCG appears to normalize the cell cycle and prompts cancer cell death known as apoptosis.</li>
<li class="circle_arrow">Green tea EGCG is reported on a list of compounds that have been found to suppress inflammatory cytokines (inflammatory cytokines lead to increased oxidative stress of the body and ultimately chronic inflammation).  Chronic inflammation is a leading cause of disease.</li>
<li class="circle_arrow">Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that are potent free radical scavengers (free radicals damage the body’s cells).</li>
<li class="circle_arrow">A study by the Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, showed that even short term consumption of green tea can reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total fasting cholesterol, body fat and body weight.</li>

<p>It’s difficult to pick up any respected health journal, book or research journal that does not have some article about green tea.  It is an amazing food that has powerful compounds that protect the body against many illnesses.  Research has found that green tea may help to prevent many different cancers including the bladder, colon, esophagus, pancreas, rectum and stomach.<br />

According to The Lancet (The world’s leading general medical journal and specialty journal in oncology), EGCG anticancer properties has to do with targeting proteins that are involved in the formation and proliferation of cancer cells.  In the January 2005 Life Extension cover story, a 2003 study suggests a strong link between the anti-cancer activities of EGCG and their inhibition of a crucial pathway for the development of many common human malignancies.</p>
<p>The Lancet goes on to report that EGCG has shown to control metastasis of melanoma (skin cancer) cells to the lungs.  This is compelling because it’s the metastasis of melanoma tumor cells that eventually causes death in melanoma patients.</p>
<p>The evidence supporting green tea’s role in cancer prevention is so overwhelming that the Chemo-prevention Branch of the National Cancer Institute has initiated a plan for developing tea compounds as chemo preventative agents in further human trials.</p>
<p>The benefits do not stop with cancer.  There is much research that has found benefits to the cardiovascular system, blood sugar levels, arthritis, neurodegeneration and other conditions.  Oxidative stress is involved in many degenerative disease processes, one being cardiovascular disease.  Green tea EGCG has shown, in clinical studies, to decrease the damage from oxidative stress and moderates blood pressure.  Epidemiological studies show that EGCG promotes healthy glucose metabolism as well.</p>
<p>One thing that Americans fear is inconvenience.  Green tea is a powerful whole food that involves little inconvenience to prepare and consume.  A three minute steep of the leaves with hot water and you have an instant cup of health.  A tip for green tea consumers, as with any whole food it is best to use whole leaves, as the powerful compounds are not lost in any processing of the food.</p>
<p>The facts are in.  Adopting easy healthy lifestyle habits can have a compelling impact on your health for years to come.</p>
